Use of Class Time
The teacher's use of time during this lesson help facilitate learning through engagement. I saw this not only in the Kahoot! activity, but also in the Become the Expert activity. These strategies to engage students with learning the math material seems to be very helpful and facilitated the main objectives of the lesson well. Through this observation, I have learned that I want to have well thought out lessons, with activities that might not take up the whole class time, but enough to help students learn. I also realized how little of lecturing the teacher does during their lesson, which is something I hope to also strive for because the exploration side of learning is interesting to see work well and keeps students more engaged.

I learned in my CT's classroom how necessary it is to have quick and clean transitions from activity to activity. He likes to have multiple activities each day and if his students are not quick on the transition, it becomes harder to get anything done. I wonder how your CT minimizes transition time. What do you mean when you say to have activities that don't take up the whole class time but enough to help students learn? If you feel students have grasped the subject quickly, what else are you doing/should you be doing with your class time? It would be interesting to hear more on what you mean by that!
Thanks for sharing your observations, Erika. When you mentioned timing of activities so that students have "enough time" how do you think you can decide how much time that will be? I think one thing that is difficult as a new teacher is figuring out pacing. Are there certain signals from students you can look for to know when to move to the next section of class? This would be in an interesting activity to repeat when you are in your student teaching classroom, it makes an observer notice different things!
